My brother came home from school a couple of days ago with 31 pieces of origami paper and instructions to use all the paper to create origami cranes in order to help the school make 1000 paper cranes that will be strung together. Of course, I was the one who ended up making them over two evenings. To make the cranes, I used instructions from: http://www.origami-fun.com/origami-crane.html. They had a pdf to download with diagrams and written instructions as well as a video. I did not use the video but found the instructions quite easy to follow, especially since I have used this site before to make tulips and lilies. The only problems were knowing which way to do the first basic folds in steps 1 and 2 in order to make sure that the coloured side of the paper was right side up. Also for step 11, it was very tricky to get the paper to cooperate and the instructions did not explain the actual process of how to fold it, but I am sure that if I watched the video, it would have made a lot more sense! Hopefully they will look excellent once they are all put together!
